In 2006 we started
making trips to Finca Las Brisas to work or show the
property to prospective clients. Each trip we
had so much fun and we did so many things, that we
decided to organize adventure tours around our major
working trips and the requests by people to visit
the finca.
When we
put in our road, we also cut in a very rough
"trail" of a road up the mountain connecting
with another road on the ridge that would
take us over the back way to Nosara. We put
in the road mostly for our neighbors, but
we also thought it might be a short-cut to
Nosara with a beautiful view of the
coastline during the dry season.
In January
2007 we arrived with a group of people that
had all met together in the Miami airport.
It was getting dark as our caravan of 4 SUVs
reached the turn-off to the finca. Anxious
to see our new road we drove up the 5
kilometers and it soon became dark. Without
the normal light pollution and a moon it was as dark
as a night gets, even though it seemed
like you could reach out and touch the
stars. We decided to drive up our trail over
the mountain because it was getting late. It
is hard to explain what it is like getting
lost on the side of a mountain in the pitch
blackness in Costa Rica on a road that is
little more than a trail, but we were a little
nervous. We also had some kids in one SUV that
will go to their graves swearing that they
were not crying, but they were. Finally we
said to them, "If you were back in the US
right now, what would you be doing?" They
all replied, "Homework!" We asked them, "So
would you rather be doing this or doing
homework?" They all agreed that being scared
was preferable to doing homework and then
one boy said, "You know, this is like a
movie," and then one of the other children
added, "This is like BEING IN a movie!"
From
that point on it was adventure after
adventure the entire trip.
On our
adventure tours we hike, swim, snorkel, fish, take
ultra-flights, ride zip lines, go horse back riding, 4 wheeling, surfing,
exploring, and turtle observing while constantly
searching for
animals, trees and plants we have never seen
before - it is just endless.
We have
had nine adventure tours now with three in 2007,
four in 2008 and one in 2009.
Some people have come on all trips.
Maybe you
can join us sometime?
