Born in Zurich Switzerland 10.07.1964
Grew up on the lake side of Zurich, and attended primary
and secondary school in the towns of Kilchberg and
Oberrieden.
Spent three years (1980-1983) of professional training
in forestry at the Stadtforstamt in Zurich, and then
worked in the forests around the city.
From 18 to 26 (1982-1990) I traveled and worked in
forestry and landscaping jobs. My travels took me to the
United States, South-East Asia, Australia, India, twice
to Mexico and throughout Europe. Most of my professional
experience comes from working in the Alps. In 1988, I
was living in Zurich and I was working again for
Stadtforstamt in the forest close to the Zurich Zoo. The
next four years I was responsible for the basic training
of young people who wanted to become foresters.
In 1994 I was trained in managing a forestry company at
Forsterschule in Lyss, and gained more technical
knowledge of sustainable forestry. After getting the
Diploma as a Swiss Forester I began looking for a
forestry job abroad.
In 1995 I came to Costa Rica to work for Precious Woods.
My position was to build and run an information center
in Garza. The position ended in the first year but I had
fallen in love with Costa Rica and decided to dedicate
my life to nature and living and working in this
wonderful country. At this time I began to get involved
in consulting on reforestation projects as well as real
estate developments. My passion has been to help
developments become as sustainable as possible,
protection of the watersheds and forests, and to make
the Peninsula of Nicoya a place of international
interests by increasing the biodiversity and creating
bio corridors for the flora and fauna of the region.
One of my most recent projects was up in Flores above
Nosara where I planted 40 hectares with 53 different
endemic species. The property is owned by an American
couple that have been living in Nosara for 15 years, and
I continue to manage the maintenance on the farm and
work on additional construction and infrastructure
projects.
Currently I have been working for Finca Las Brisas, a
sustainable development in the hills above Samara. I am
in charge of the successive natural development on the
farm. The purpose of my work is to change the finca from
pastures to a forest by planting thousands of trees that
are part of the regional dry forest, orchards, and
species that are in danger of extinction. This is long
term project that will create a living space for people
that love an intact environment. Since the developers
are in the US, I am the primary contact on the ground
and do a variety of projects on the finca.
In 2005 I married a Costa Rican and now live with my
family in Nosara where I run my company Bosques
Naturales Siempre Verde S.A.
